These are the first major revisions to the Edge since it debuted in 2006. The company assures that the styling will remain familiar and will only have what they call “evolutionary tinkering.”

All of the 2011 model’s sheet metal except the roof and doors has been replaced. For its interior, passengers can expect it to be quieter due to additional soundproofing, styling changes to reduce wind noise, and acoustic glass. Continued after the jump!

From one engine, there will now be three, with a re-engineered, 3.5-liter V-6 and the addition of a re-engineered 3.7-liter V-6. Ford claims that the engines have improved fuel economy and increased horsepower and torque. The 3.5-liter V-6 produces, 285 hp, up from 265 while the torque is increased by 3 pounds-feet. The 3.7-liter V-6 produces 305 hp and 280 pounds-feet of torque. Derrick Kuzak, Ford Motor Co. group vice president of global product development, said that the Edge is an example of Ford’s “new approach to freshening.”

Inside, the new Edge features a new instrument panel, console, center stack and steering wheel, along with door panels and seat trim. MyFord Touch, co-developed with Microsoft Corp., is standard on Limited and Sport model, while an 8-inch screen in the center stack and two configurable 4.2-inch screens in the instrument cluster provide vehicle and entertainment information. The steering wheel features five-way buttons for operating the system, while a new voice control system simplifies commands and introduces voice control over more features. “The level of materials, fit and finish, craftsmanship — the whole driver experience is significantly enhanced,” Bannon said.
