This is the all-new 2011 Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, a new car which will be writing a new chapter in the motoring history (at least according to Peugeot).
As expected, the new car carries a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter engine delivering 163 bhp and an electric motor delivering 37 bhp. With this hybrid system, the new car is expected to deliver a superior Combined Drive Cycle fuel consumption of 74.4mpg, and CO2 emissions of 99g/km. The maximum combined power output is 200 bhp, while the maximum torque delivered is 500 Nm is available, split with 300Nm at the front from the HDi diesel engine and 200 Nm at the rear generated by the electric motor.
According to Peugeot, the performance is managed via a performance selector mounted on the centre console which enables the driver to choose between four different operating modes: Auto, ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle), four-wheel drive mode (4WD) and Sport. Via the Auto mode, the system is automatically controlled, providing optimal driving for fuel consumption and dynamic performance. The ZEV mode, will transform the car into a zero emission vehicle. The four-wheel drive mode makes both power trains to operate together: the rear wheels are powered by the electric motor while the front wheels by the HDI engine.
The sport mode enables quicker gear changes and higher engine speeds. As expected, the car comes with Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries are located under the boot floor, near the electric motor. Inside, a 7″ 16/9 colour screen or a multi-function display is offered showing you the operating status of the power train but also info regarding a given journey or the status of the battery charge.
On the instrument panel the left-hand dial indicates the percentage of power used or recovered during phases of braking or deceleration. Different scales indicate the battery status: Charge, Eco (optimal operating range), Power, Boost (maximum use jointly with the HDi diesel engine).
