Robert Bosch GmbH’s expansion of its existing plant and the construction of a new technical center in an economic development zone in the central China city of Changsha will be completed in mid-2012.
Bosch’s investment for this project amounts to 240 million yuan ($354 million). According to the deal with the zone administration, Bosch will lease 30,000 square meters of land for the plant expansion and construction of the r&d facility. Established in 2004, Bosch’s Changsha plant produces actuators, wipers, thermal systems, starters and generators for automakers. With this expansion, Bosch aims to double the plant’s production capacity. The new r&d center will house 350 engineers and will serve Bosch’s electrical drives division and its starters and generators division. Bosch’s other technical centers in China include Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi and Chongqing. On the Automotive News Europe’s list of the top 100 global suppliers, Bosch takes the No. 2 spot with $25.62 billion in sales in 2009.
