A powerful performance and an impressive fuel economy those two factors rarely go together but in the Audi RS 5, they do. Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Audi RS 5 is an elegant coupe that features the high-revving 4.2-liter V8 with its 331 kW (450 hp).

Transmitting power to all the wheels are the seven-speed S tronic and an innovative center differential in the quattro drivetrain. The RS models were created by quattro GmbH and are intended to lead Audi‘s model range. The RS 5 offers superior handling in the mid-size class a characteristic that can be traced back over 15 years to the RS 2 Avant. The car’s V8 engine is closely related to the V10, which is featured in the R8 sports car. The V8’s output stems from a displacement of 4,163 cm3. Similar to most Audi gasoline engines, this engine operates via direct fuel injection known by the abbreviation FSI. Furthermore, the common-rail system produces as much as 120 bars of pressure. The undersquare engine is allowed to breathe freely due to the intensive fine-tuning of the dual-branch intake and exhaust system. Its four adjustable camshafts and tumble flaps in the intake manifold lead to mixture formation. The 4.2 FSI functions like a race engine because of the resulting torque and high revs are incredibly easy to accomplish.

This engine is able to generate 331 kW (450 hp) at 8,250 rpm and between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm – transmits a maximum of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) of torque. The V8 engine produced by hand at Audi merges power and emotion and in so doing, the car has a strength, responsiveness, and sound that is awe-inspiring. Weighing 1,725 kilograms (3,802.97 pounds), the car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62.14 mph) in 4.6 seconds with the 4.2 FSI.

While the car boasts a top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph), it can still be increased up to 280 km/h (173.98 mph) upon the owner’s request. The RS 5 is very fuel-efficient. Its ultra-powerful eight-cylinder engine averages 10.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (21.78 miles US mpg), a rate that puts to shame its main competitors. Audi attributes this achievement to the technologies from its modular efficiency platform. To lessen friction, the engine and the entire drivetrain have been optimized. Moreover, this car’s oil pump operates on demand and it has an energy-recovery system that saves energy during coasting and braking.
