Audi Wants Big Stake In Development Partner

By AutoObserver Staff November 28, 2011

The Volkswagen Group’s Audi AG division said on Monday it plans to acquire a 49-percent share of the csi group of companies, a longstanding vehicle-development partner for Audi. The company said in a release it “will use the acquired expertise to create additional capacity for the development of new models.” The csi group has for more than a decade helped Audi develop production models that include, said Michael Dick, member of the board of management for technical development, the R8 supercar.

The csi group of companies has about 250 employees with expertise than includes development of vehicle bodies and interiors and lightweight construction techniques. The company has a development center close to Audi’s large assembly plant and headquarters for its quattro GmbH performance division in Neckarsulm, as well as several other additional sites in Germany. Audi said its investment in its development partner currently is “being examined by the relevant antitrust authorities.”
