Toyota Extends Cutback Due To Thailand Flooding

Toyota Motor Corp. has extended for an additional week its shutdown of automaking operations in flood-ravaging Thailand, the company announced today, adding that production cutbacks in North American and Asia-Pacific factories also will be extended to Nov. 14. The supply of scores of components from Thai factories has been impacted by the flooding, Thailands worst in a half-century. Toyota said in a release it will later assess the situation to determine production plans beyond Nov. 14.
Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has been most affected by the regions flooding, with an assembly plant that is completely under water and expected to be shuttered for months. The Reuters news service reported Toyota lost production of 69,000 vehicles from Thai assembly plants between late October and Nov. 5 and another 22,000 units of lost production in Japan.
