Corvette Summer Fridays Anyone? [Car Porn]

Despite it being a Friday in the Summer, some of us were working. For example, I drove all three of these. More on that next week. In the meantime, I want to know — what’re your driving plans this weekend? More »

Hopefully, Ray will quit before he has destroyed all of civilzation as we know it. I checked the news and the lights are still on along the eastern seaboard so at least his virus hasn’t hit the power grid yet.

  7. Tomorrow morning (today?) I’m driving down to the NJ Motor Sports park to try to get in on some arrive and drive karting with my buddy from college. We’re looking to buy a kart soon and start working on it so we can drive it on the weekends. If we can’t catch any arrive and drives we’ll just shmooze with the locals and see what tips/pointers/tricks we can pick up on. Also, I think there’s some Mazda open wheel racing and street bike races going on – so we can’t go wrong hanging at the track for the better part of the day.

Plus I get to cruise the CRV on the parkway for 2+ hours which is always a pleasant drive in the summer (if there’s no traffic).

    Cheers Jalops!

  13. Running all over the local two-lane twisties as an on-the-clock Federal employee….getting a ton of fireworks, from however much driving (within reason) it takes, enjoying some quality time with all the windows down and the tunes up and the snarl of the engine and the feel of cornering Gs saturating my senses.

She’s no ‘Vette but she sounds all right and will corner and brake hard enough to almost make me throw up. Life’s good.

  19. @Tossed Mazda3hatch’s Chicken Salad all over Accord’s face with a plate of croutons and Blue Cheese dressing: Obviously. I only hope he’s not trying to fix it. By the time he’s done we’ll be answering the QOTD with smoke signals.

  20. If I get a good dry spell, I’ll take the KLR650 out and get the mold release compound scrubbed off the tread of the new front tire I installed this afternoon.

Otherwise I might do some test drives. After 12 years I finally want to replace my ’96 T-bird. I did try a Challenger R/T and a ’11 Mustang V6 the other day, and loved both. I actually felt better about the Challenger, but I think that’s from the Hemi torque making up for my current lack of finesse with an automotive manual. I might go try a ’11 V6/auto Mustang just to eliminate that variable so I can experience the rest of the car, though I want a manual in whatever I do end up getting (it’ll come along fast once I have the car, just apparently not fast enough for a 10-minute 6-mile test-drive.)

Next on my list might be one of the recent Aussie-derived Pontiacs, or maybe something in the Mazda3 vein.

    Yeah…
Im in that exact same position.

Upgraded my java (to play first gen Castlevania.. — which totally FUCKIN RULES!!!!)

Upgraded my Firefox to 3.6.4, upgraded every damn piece of software just to keep running..

    P.S I.E 7 = blows.

AND… I just saw Master and Commander of the FAR side of the world.. ONLINE.

Im not as blessed as others in here, with their Vettes and Jags or w/e…

I’m stuck with 2 vehicles with combined miliage of about 400k.

But give me a link to F-zero so I can play that.. and I might be a little bit happier.

  27. I’m gonna drive my Honda Civic to work, then I’m gonna drive it home. Then I’m gonna sleep, then drive my Honda Civic back to work, and back home once more.

  28. @87CapriceEstate: Sounds good… I had Off the Wall and Bad blasting on the stereo today. Say what you want, that is some great f-in music.

  29. @Baby Beater Benz: My sister lived in Addison, about two blocks off the tollway when she had her first born. I went up to visit shortly afterwards.

Her car had a stickshift and her body had not yet recovered enough to work the three pedals yet, and my car at the time was not convenient for a car seat, so she had me drive her everywhere using her car. Of course, just about every trip used the toll road.

When it was time for me to go home, I got on the toll road, as had been my habit. I was about 20 feet in front of the tollbooth when I realized I was in the lane for tolltags only, and of course, I didn’t have one in my car. I already had three cars stacked up behind me. I shouted to a tollboot person, and she told me to just drive through anyway. I know what you mean about watching for the mail, but fortunately my bill never came.

Anyway, we’re gonna try to put some miles on OA 5599 junior’s new (to him) soap box derby car this weekend. I had gotten inspired by Krider’s posting last weekend, and caught a break with a Craigslist find a couple days ago.

  30. @dogapult: I feel yah. I stopped counting the amount of times I’ve had my VW on jacks after like the 6th time.

    Still love the thing.

  31. they were pretty big, and then my VW’s engine started making horrible noises, so I guess my driving plans this weekend involve a tow truck to my work, to fix the car.

  34. Driving up to D.C. to visit my aunt and my cousins who’ve never experienced Washington before.

Should be interesting. Traffic will undoubtedly suck, but its been a while since I cruised D.C. and actually did anything except buy polo shirts there.

  37. I know that at some point this weekend I’ll strap my 2 year old son into his Recaro child seat and we’ll take a little drive in the Evo through a nearby canyon. The road is fun, but there is usually a steady stream of traffic. But that’s OK as having the boy on board keeps me in check. He loves it. Hearing him giggle and say “Wheee!” is priceless.

  41. Working all day tomorrow, so I get to drive my car around and get paid for it. Just had the tires rotated on the Ion SS, so tomorrow will be break-in day for the stronger fronts. Cruise after work. I need a radar detector like NOW!

    Josh Clontz

  42. Did all the major driving, today.

SW Fort Worth to freakin’ Plano to get a wheel barrow which was effectively new, but $20. Worth the $15 in gas, and I never expected, on a Friday afternoon, you’d be able to drive 80 MPH on a freeway in Dallas/Colin county.

Well, it’s a tollway, but y’know. I wonder how long it’ll be before I get the bill in the mail…. No-tollbooth havin’ bastards.

    Baby Beater Benz

  43. @smokyburnout: That’s my Sunday – watching the Peak race. Tomorrow, maybe let the back end of the truck hang out in the field. I’ve been watering it so it should be properly slick.

  44. @Axel-Ripper: Yeah, I’m not seeing anything either.

  46. I’m going to sit in front of the TV and watch other people drive fast.
If the weather cooperates, I’ll do some fun electrical diagnosis on the 240D.

  47. Today I drove around blasting Michael Jackson music while hauling scrap metal in a vehicle with no rear bumper. Might do the same tomorrow.

Definitely have to get some lawn mower gas tomorrow and do a few errands either Saturday Sunday. Need to find a place that sells bumper brackets.

Whether I am using Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox 3 the picture does not work and I am sad.

  48. Picture no worky for me…

However, this weekend I’m heading back home. The college (work) term is over, and I have 2-3 weeks until classes, so this weekend is the time to pack up everything into the bed of my 66 and head the 300 miles back across Ontario to NY.

And I may just wind up either at a tractor pull, or the drive-in. I also figured out what killed off most of the drive-ins in the country: The getting rid of bench seats. It’s so much nicer having one when you’re there.

    Axel-Ripper

  49. jumping on my bike and towing my 2.5 year old around town.

First we have his gymnastics/tumbling class, then running a few errands in town, back home for him to nap (unless he sleeps in the trailer which is common)

Then it’s home to change my oil and finish mowing the lawn.

I think the most driving I’ll do is to church on Sunday. It might even be nice to not have to use it this weekend, but I doubt that will happen.

  50. This weekend, I plan to go to the weekly open house at Zero-60 Garage (supercar/muscle car restorer and customizer) with some buddies and wrench on my 240Z.

  52. This weekend we are driving our oldest home from camp in the Odyessy.

Then I’m changing the instrument cluster out on my 240sx and going for a drive!

I’m not sure if Mark Hamill approves or not.

  53. This weekend? Driving up to King’s Island with a friend or two for some roller coaster fun. Ask again this time next week – I’ll be preparing for the Dragon :)

  54. Taking the horrible-on-gas-but-still-fun-to-drive 2004 Grand Cherokee to Detroit for a day. If it’s not raining.

    Tijuana Taxi

  55. That would be going to work in my brother-in-law’s clapped out ’89 Taurus.

It sure as hell beats walking. I hate walking to work at 4:30 in the morning.
