International Scout gasser doing wheelies is as cool as it sounds [Video]

We’re not sure many vehicles have ever left the factory that are less suited for low 11 second 1/4 miles and serious wheelies than the International Scout 80. That is exactly why the fact this 1963 International Scout is somehow capable of both of these impressive feats is so cool. More »

  1. Excuse me? I’m pretty sure that was a snowmobile at 1:13, but where is the snow?

  2. A gasser International Scout vs a snowmobile in a drag race. Whats next up, a turbonique go-cart?

  3. There’s no “just about” about it. If it moves, someone WILL try to race it.

  5. My old man worked for IH back in the day, and I was the proudest kid on the block when he brought home a bright green Baja Scout with soft top and removable doors. It was the greatest thing I’d ever seen watching my old man race through the subdivision in suit and tie (tie flying in the wind behind him like the scarf of a WW1 pilot) with the roof and doors off the multi-coloured Baja. Epic. I wish I had video, but alas this was the late 70′s.

  6. I understand moving the engine back 10 inches to put some weight on the back axle, but when you’re starting with a 100″ wheelbase you’re just doing it for the wheelies!

  8. Um… I don’t even know where to start with you. I mean, do you even know who you’re racing against? Do you have any idea who I am? Basically, kind of a big deal.

  10. They are drag racing as well. Rollers skis and an asphalt track. Good fun to fill in when there is no ice to race on.

  11. You know what the best part is? This was actually built in the 70′s for street racing and use to sport a 426 HEMI! Here is a link to the resurrection/build thread.

  12. There were some aftermarket fiberglass bodies. but, other than some very special low production scouts (the RV scout comes to mind) there weren’t any with factory fiberglass.

  13. Even more impressive, those sleds sixty foot like a seven second car. Unlimited traction and light wieght will do that for ya.

If only they could do something about that sound!

  14. Did some IH Scouts have fiberglass bodies?
And does anyone know what’s up with the snowmobiles?

  15. You know, usually when I think of International Harvester Scout I think of lifted off roading vehicles. But this an interesting way to use an IH Scout, and I still approve of it.

  16. Most fun to be had at a drag strip. That snowmobile running somewhere around a 12 second run is pretty cool too.
