GENEVA — A Polish auto magazine has leaked official photos of the 2013 Volvo V40 on its Facebook page, ahead of the car’s formal unveiling at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show. The car is intended mainly for European and Asian markets, and is not expected to be sold in the U.S.
The new V40 is a compact five-door hatchback that appears to stretch Volvo’s design vocabulary, while maintaining continuity with the brand’s current styling cues, judging from the photos posted Wednesday by Warsaw-based Motodziennik.
Volvo last week released a blurry teaser image of the car’s silhouette on its own Facebook page, along with a live digital display counting down toward the V40′s official Geneva launch on March 6.
Scheduled to go on sale in Europe later this year, the V40 will compete against such premium entries as the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz B-Class.
Inside Line says: Volvo thinks you wouldn’t like the V40. Would you buy it if the automaker took a chance and sold it in America?
