- Audi is considering a production version of the Quattro concept from Paris.
- If green-lighted, it would be a low-volume car assembled by ItalDesign.
- Officials in Ingolstadt want to keep the two-seat coupe’s price tag below $140K.
INGOLSTADT, Germany — Audi is considering building a limited-production version of its Quattro concept from last week’s Paris auto show, with low-volume assembly handled by new Volkswagen AG subsidiary ItalDesign Giugiaro. The projected price tag for the two-seat coupe would not exceed $139,000, according to Audi officials.
Word of the possible limited-edition Quattro was reported by AutoWeek, which suggested that Audi might pursue a technical tie-up with another sibling, Lamborghini, which is developing expertise in carbon-fiber.
The Quattro concept, meant to evoke memories of the original early-’80s two-door of the same name, is built on a shortened and lightened version of the Audi RS5 chassis, with a lightweight body made of aluminum and carbon-fiber.
The concept is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine rated at a claimed 408 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque.
