HOLLYWOOD, California — Mercedes-Benz says its S400 Hybrid sedan is making fans among the Hollywood A-list. As proof, the automaker cites Robert Downey, Jr., who drove the luxury hybrid while filming his newest movie, Due Date, and the singer/actress Miley Cyrus.
Mercedes says such “elite” TV and film luminaries as Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Christina Applegate and Felicity Huffman have chosen to drive Mercedes-Benz Bluetec and ML Hybrid vehicles.
Could it be the IRS tax credit? The IRS is currently offering $1,150 in “alternative powertrain” tax credits for the S400 buyer, $2,200 for the ML450 hybrid and $900-$1,800 for owners of Bluetec-equipped Mercedes diesels.
The 2010 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid has a 275-horsepower V6 paired with a lithium-ion battery — “the world’s first…in a production hybrid vehicle,” boasts the automaker — and a pair of electric motors.
