Toyota Pedal Recall Update #6: Discontinued Pontiac Vibe Included Massive Recall
DETROIT — The Toyota Matrix is among the vehicles Toyota is recalling in a massive worldwide action over a defective accelerator pedal. The pullback of sales of its sibling, the Pontiac Vibe, won’t be a big issue for General Motors, which is just about out of stock on the discontinued model. However, the automaker will be recalling some 71,000 Vibes from the 2009-10 model years.
GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson told Inside Line that the company will implement “whatever fix Toyota comes up with” on the Vibe, which was engineered and built by Toyota. He estimated there are only two Vibes left in GM’s inventory now. The car ended production last August, after GM ended its relationship with the GM-Toyota joint venture New United Motor Manufacturing (NUMMI).
