Mercedes-Benz and Nissan has announced partnership in engineering and manufacturing resources sharing.
The collaboration will include various projects, one of which is the joint-production of four-cylinder petrol engines at Nissan’s power-plant assembly in Decherd, Tenn. The engines will be fitted to Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti models starting in 2014. The plant will also undergo a revamp, which will see a rise in its capacity to 250,000 per annum.
Other projects will involve the Nissan-Renault alliance, for instance, production of a new entry-level van for Mercedes-Benz in Renault’s plant in France. In addition, the two companies will share architecture platforms for compact vehicles beginning 2014.
