New Mercedes-Benz SL photos leaked

The all-new SL was first revealed via a leaked brochure, and now, official photos have emerged on the Internet, ahead of the car’s scheduled launch at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show in January. Mercedes-Benz is expected to make an official announcement regarding the new SL soon.

The new SL features boxier styling, which is closely modelled after the smaller SLK, and the new SL is the first mainstream Mercedes-Benz model to feature an almost exclusively aluminum construction that make it around 140kg lighter than the car it replaces. The new SL keeps the current model’s folding top with Mercedes-Benz’s Magic Sky Control roof, with a glass structure being offered as an option.

While Mercedes-Benz has released several details on the technologies and the chassis design of the new SL, the German company remains tight-lipped about the available engine range. However, the new SL is expected to launch with Mercedes-Benz’s new 3.5-litre V6 and 4.6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engines, with more powerplants to be introduced down the line.
