Comfort and practicality
The Polo looks much like the Golf inside, with the same dignified design, logical switchgear and quality materials. Comfortline models get chrome-edged vents, leather-wrapped steering wheel and rear centre armrest.
Up front, supportive seats and two-way steering adjustment ensure most shapes and sizes can get comfortable, while a handy fold-away centre armrest adds to the pampering feel.
It’s practical, too, thanks to multiple cupholders, big door pockets (with bottle holders), a chilled glovebox and a handy spot in front of the gear shifter that’s perfect for mobile phones.
Issues? Well, the back seat is OK for children but anyone close to 1.8 metres will feel cramped. A 280-litre boot isn’t huge, though it does have a full-size spare and handy storage spot underneath.
That upmarket feel, too, isn’t quite as pervasive as other VWs with hard, slightly cheap-looking plastic on some fixtures.
