See Hannu Mikkola being re-united with the first ever quattro rally car built by Audi Sport in 1980. Hannu first drove this car on The Algarve Rallye in Portugal, 1980. Registered IN-NE 3, this car was the very first rally car to combine 4 wheel drive and turbo charging. Can you imagine a WRC without these factors? Well, meet the ACTUAL car that revolutionised everything you see in WRC today. This is the real thing. Here is a quote from Audi press office:- Hannu Mikkola leaves the opposition dumbstruck when Audi officially launches the quattro on the Algarve Rally. Mikkola, running as a course car on the quattro’s first public outing, sets a searing pace. Had times counted towards the event, the Audi would have won by over 30 minutes! Group 4, Group B Rally The car has been restored by and is owned by John Hanlon, UK
these cars are part of rallying history and while it is really good to see the likes of hannu mikkola, michelle mouton and my favourite stig blomqvist driving them again i can only hope they dont end up wrapped round a tree or such like, all credit should go to john hanlon for keeping these quattro,s alive and breathing fire as they were intended, alas i will just hav to be content with my replica ! yes john another replica !
thanks for uploading this video. I respect Hannu Mikkola and audi quattro!
the oldman can still drive, impressive
just how many of these beasts are owned by john? i ‘ve seen the sport q,and the corsica a2,but how many others are there……i notice hannu didn’t take the algarve car around the stage(at least not on this vid).
awesome!!!!!!!! bring back the glory days of rallying….. the modern cars and drivers are as fast if not faster than old.. but they have nowhere near as much style or character!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a legend hannu mikkola….and group b/audi quatro just amazing
