  1. the Ferrari 599 GTO is a modern car, they have a history of using it, with the 250GTO and the 288 GTO, and its design is nothing but modern, they didn’t make it look like the other GTOs, as for mercedes and american car companies, their design department seem like they are out of ideas so they’re recycling old ones… worse, they’re recycling old tech too on some models like the mustang (no independant rear suspension, give me a break)

  2. @Yanp87 But what does the SLS have to do with American car companies going retro? If Mercedes and Ferrari(599 GTO) are doing it, than it must not be that bad of an idea…

  3. @13fnf exactly, I thought the SLR was better anyway

  4. @Yanp87 You might be forgetting the SLS Mercedes…That’s a reboot too…

  5. @13fnf I’m not saying fiberglass was never good, I’m just saying that corvette fans should stop living in the past and accept the future, evolution… which the american car companies don’t seem to understand because they are going retro on us (just look at the mustang, camaro and challenger reboots…)

  6. @Yanp87 Considering the fact that the entire heritage of the car was built on a fiberglass body…I mean yeah. Lets sacrifice our history for some Aluminum or carbon fiber(which wouldn’t exist had fiberglass not been invented). There aren’t many cars that had a 100% fiberglass body when the hit the production line…let alone in 53′…when every other sports car was being crafted out of metal. I just think they should’ve considered that with the rest of the Corvette line.

  7. @13fnf well the brakes are carbon-ceramic brakes, the rear ones are the same as on the Enzo and the front ones are similar to the one on the Ferrari FXX while the ones on the CTS-V are a little less expensive but still good brembo ones and I agree the main difference between the two engines is just the ECU

  8. @Yanp87 Actually, those breaks aren’t 10k more than the stock GM performance breaks…and If I’m not mistaken…The engine is the EXACT SAME ENGINE with the EXACT SAME SUPERCHARGER, it’s just tuned differently and has a different pulley on it. So…yeah…it’s pretty much the same car….

  9. @13fnf the plastic in that car is horrible, but it’s suspension is good for once (no leaf springs in that one…) and i’m glad it’s not made from fiberglass…personnally they should make it out of aluminium or even better, all carbon fiber

  10. @13fnf CTS-V doesn’t have the same brakes, so just there, you got a 10-15k difference in prize that’s justified, it’s chassis doesn’t have any carbon fiber but then the interior is better too so we won’t count it, the engine is less powerful than the ZR1 too so you can’t say you buy the same car, you’re just buying a different car

  11. @Yanp87 The quality and craftsmanship went out the window in the late 60s when they changed the stingray body and turned a piece of art into a piece of shit. I’d love to own a ZR-1, but for the build quality of the car, it’s really not worth much more than 80k…let alone 115-120. I mean really, you can essentially buy the same car for half the price if you settle for a CTS-V…and you have the satisfaction of having a Cadillac.

  12. @Yanp87 I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but I am a Corvette guy and I hate to say that the only thing the ZR-1 has that’s any good(aside from looks) is the engine and the breaks. The car may have a few carbon bits on it, but in it’s entirety, it’s made of entirely too much urethane and not enough fiberglass(which was what the Corvette name WAS known for).

  16. “Believe it or not, a lot of people actually drive cars for the fun of driving rather than just to look rich in them.”

Believe it or not, the amount of fun involved in driving an R8 V10 would make you cry.

  17. @Yanp87 but still a toddlers small car has more luxuries than the corvette

  18. it is cheap… you’ll never see a european car made that cheaply… still a great car though and great technology but the interior is cheap and that plastic is really cheap

  19. I’m tired of people bashing the ZR1, it has the best brakes of any road car currently in production, it has a magnetic suspension ressembling the one from the Ferrari 599, the engine is really good even if it is not that technically advanced, and carbon fiber was used in its construction (roof, hood and a couple of panels in it) and all that for about 115k… it is a bargain for that performance… and btw i don’t like corvette, I’m a porsche guy but I’m open enough to recognize a great car

  21. LOL, “mad as a Mexican’s dog?” WTF ??

  22. it was built by a german who will be shot at dawn for this HAHHAHAAA

  23. Yea I heard him say that. My point was exactly that as a customer I’d never buy a car that has poor build quality, twitchy handling and no class at all, just because it’s supposed to be “fun”.

  24. Because the ZR1 is more fun. Or maybe you didn’t hear him say that?

  25. LostChildOfTime

@momopauly You do realize the ZR1 has the same brakes from the Ferrari Enzo in the rear and a similar front brake design from the Ferrari FXX? They come standard.

And it pulls bigger lateral Gs than the Enzo?

On the other hand, F1 level drivers won’t make as big of a difference doing a wet/dry lap compared to a driver that’s less skilled. The dry lap will always be faster, but unless it’s completely soaked and the car has crap tires, it likely won’t be much different.
