Original BMW Parts. Oil filter.

There’s a big difference, between a BMW Genuine Oil Filter and a counterfeit, although they sometimes look very similar…watch the test.

  1. As a service tech, I call bs. If you buy decent quality aftermarket (baldwin, wix, mann, premium guard, bosch) they will hold up equally as well and do the same job. I have only seen one or two filters ever begin to disintegrate, and that was because the idiots drove 20,000 mi. between changes. Stay away from places like jiffy lube and midas and take your car into a REAL local repair shop for service, especially if you have a BMW.

  2. remember folks only original bmw parts

  3. @sunnyjason or Mahle depending on the filter itself

  4. From a perspective I can see where BMW is trying to drive this video for other “chinese” filters… but… what is driven home is the, good point that, someone (Mann, licensed et. al.) has to make the filter and the part meets all specifications less the real part number/ BMW stamp. That is what (BMW) has issues with and the consumer has issues with on the mark up.BMW is just late on what the big three have seen IRT this issue, and for the most part, they (thank goodness) gave up on that battle.

  5. a real important video because my 3 series on board says to change oil every 20000+ km, unusally long intervals so i would get a jobber oil change in between the ones paid for by bmw, i can see now that it is not necessary. it would be a good idea to post how come bmw has such long intervals between oil changes…

  8. the “counterfeit ” Mann is a fake Mann filter.
genuine Mann filter is what BMW uses in their cars.

  9. @BrabusTKR We don’t know if he put more pressure on the other one, he may have put the same pressure on both and because the BMW is such a better quality oil filter it didn’t break under pressure.

  10. Thats why as a BMW owner, no matter what year, model, you have to get those filters from a BMW dealership and have them OR your indie change it and YOU sit there watching it if you have to.

I can’t tell you how prevalent fraudulent repairs are in the BMW indie shop world.

Used Bimms are a gamble – if they have been mis-maintained, you won’t know 100% unless you buy from the original owner or second responsible owner who went the extra miles and has proof of it.

    Tough being a BMW owner.

  11. Next I’d like the specialist to explain what damage is done when supermarket quality engine oil is used with BMW’s extended service intervals.

Yeah… I do go to dealer to buy bmw filters and bmw oil but thats about it. Everything else is made by well known other companies. Buying BMW OEM is just to expensive.

  13. CmanCorporations

This video would be more applicable to owners if they tested their OEM part to a generic part.
ie. a part that is not counterfeit, but one made by other legitimate companies

  14. Made in Germany.

Yeah sometimes I am proud of my country.

  15. BMW = COOL !

  16. Interesting watch, makes one see how much R&D is put into a silly part like the oil filter alone. Personally I wouldn’t get a BMW filter for one of my cars because of the price, use Mann or Bosch instead. Needless to say if I had a more modern BMW (meaning I could afford one), I’d probably also afford to have it serviced at the dealer.

  17. Ye ye, this video is bullshit. All BMW wants is us buying their x3 more expensive parts. If u change oil etc in ur BMW yourself u will probably agree with me. I always get the MANN filters which are great.

  18. Our Video we exploded a Bmw with after effects =)

  20. well, there’s a difference in counterfeits and aftermarket parts from third party suppliers. i barely buy original parts for me ’98 E46 318i… maybe i would if i had a more recent model lol.

  21. @jbavarian I think most people will play safe. Spending a little more rather than destroying the car’s heart.

  22. @Skampo1119 You can purchase MANN, MAHLE and Hengst…all three are top shelf. You can purchase them from several stores on eBay. I sell them all day long to countries I can not pronounce. My personal favorite is the MAHLE brand. Damn good filter.

  23. I did an oil change on an E39 once at Pep Boys and when I went to remove the filter, it ripped in half. Lady said she changes her oil every 6 months. Not sure the exact brand of the filter but that definitely was NOT a genuine BMW filter. Spent almost an hour picking the remains of the filter out of there. Probably a STP or possible Fram filter.

  24. I thought this was very interesting. I rather do oil changes at home so I can be sure that top quality engine oil and a genuine BMW filter is used.

  25. Still my favourite car !
