For full review, visit: www.autoguide.com Do you know what the difference between a crossover and an SUV is? Maybe not, but chances are that if you described what you’re looking for in an every day utility vehicle, you’d actually be talking about a crossover.
@unidad355 Ford introduced the new Explorer in hopes of sparking new sales based off the improved gas mileage capability of the new model. It still has good enough off-roading capability for the basics and gets much better gas mileage compared to the competition you listed. 4Runners are gas-guzzling V8′s. Grand Cherokees are notorious, as are all Jeeps for being hard at the gas pumps. I myself own a Jeep Liberty in which i am lucky to get 19 MPG on the interstate. great job Ford.
@unidad355 disagree
4runners too slow and handles like molasis, grand cherokee is very nice and would be a choice but small interrior and same exceleration with hemi as v6 explorer, explorer has more room more technology as well…u want a rock crawller buy a rock crawler…go buy a rubicon wrangler….slow small..as well but great offroad
This is the stupidest car in the entire world along the BMW X6. Its just makes no sense, it looks like a van drives like a van and pretty much is a van. Ford took away the little real off road capability of the old explorer for nothing, why someone will consider buying one of these when you have 4Runners, Grand Cherokees, Xterras and Pathfinders?
Oh and for the people that considers Suburbans, Tahoes, Yukons, Navigators and Expeditions off roaders, those are just V8 vans. They dont off road.
@limeimac97776 I know. So is the Yukon, Navigator, Expedition, Durango, 4-Runner, Borrego, Pathfinder, Escalade, Range Rover, and all BMW and Mercedes SUV’s. Ther are others as well that are still RWD, I just can’t think of all of them now. My point is that Ford already has 3 wrong-wheel-drive crossovers, the Edge, Flex, and Escape. Why do they need another? The Explorer could have easily been improved and updated without resorting to wrong-wheel-drive. Ford has dropped the ball big time.
alot ofppl are made they changed the explorer so much but hey its not always going to be the same, nice SUV, and the price is alots cheaper than I thought it would be! wish they had a V8 option tho
What a wrong-wheel-drive piece of junk! I wouldn’t touch that thing with a 10 meter cattle prod! The funny thing is, I see several 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokees every day on my way to and from work. Yet I have not seen one single Flexplorer since they came out. There aren’t even any at any of the stealerships in my area. I guess they’re selling like gangbusters!
Not that the new explorer looks bad, I actually like it. But in my own opinion the explorer should have stayed the same, and they should have named this the ford edge XL or something of that sort, because alot of people like the tradition of the explorers, yes they changed over the years but you were always able to tell it was an explorer. Now you can’t unless you know about the redesign.
Why does every new vehicle come with all this navi bullshit? How in the hell did people get around 10 years ago when this was unheard of? I mean this is just ridiculous, people can’t do anything for themselves anymore.
All – Surely buying a car or suv or crossover is all about personal choice?
Its been said many times that this Ford is not a rock climber nor is it intended for heavy duty towing. Its been positioned as an occasional off roader with some towing capacity – that being said if this car isnt what you want, go buy something else?
To me its a modern vehicle with good high tech interior – I need something to get me up the mountain at the weekends, that will carry my gear and keep my family safe -
I WOULD anyday. You can try me while you deal with your engine stalling at any speed, gears slipping out, electronics completely crashing, horrible steering problems, or any other of the many complains users have with their jeeps. I don’t know how many people have told me they have the same problems as everyone else with a Cheaper Jeeper.

Relax, everyone has their own opinions, think what you want, let others think what they want.

dude that was weak.. go faster than 5 mph through that mud hole! It’s a FORD, it can take it.
just drove it yesterday and everything was pretty good. Its gonna take a while though to get used to the myford touch system. Its pretty neat tho.
